Without further ado, let's get started.
Okay, let's get one thing clear:the OnePlus 8T's Power menu is weird. The first time I tried to turn off the OnePlus 8T, Google Assistant came out of nowhere to ask how I was. Yes, turning off the OnePlus 8T is not an easy task. Fortunately, there is another way to do it.
To turn off your OnePlus 8T, press the power button and the volume up button simultaneously, and the power menu will appear immediately. Well, for an interface that emphasizes one-handed operation, that certainly doesn't change.
However, you can remove this inconvenience if you wish, and bring back the conventional menu.
To do this, go to Settings> Buttons &gestures and select the "Press and hold..." option. Then just select "Food Menu" from the list, and that's it. Yes, you can thank me later.
The always-on display is perhaps one of the most anticipated features of OxygenOS:the always-on ambient display. Like its Samsung counterpart, you can see some information on the screen without waking the phone.
To turn it on, go to Settings> Display> Ambient Display, then set it to All Day.
Moreover, you can customize it further. To do this, go back to Settings and select Personalization. Then tap on Clock Style and you will see a whole new collection of clocks. Cool, right?
Interestingly, all of this bundles a feature called Insight Clock, which tells you how long you've unlocked your phone. Every time you unlock the phone, it leaves a little space in the centerline. And the width of the gap will tell you how long you've been using your phone.
Cool tip :You can also change the Horizon light colors from the menu. To do this, scroll down the Ambient Display settings and click on Horizon Light.
Another new feature that you will find handy is the new Quick Share feature. Quick Share is the Android equivalent of Apple's AirPlay, and it's awesome!
Whether it's your photos or screenshots, now you can share those images quickly and quickly. For example, suppose you took a screenshot. All you have to do is tap the Share button and you'll see the option right away.
If this is your first time, you'll see device visibility options along with the device name. Select Activate from the menu.
Now, if Nearby Sharing is enabled on the receiver, it will appear directly in the menu. All you have to do is click Accept and the transfer will complete in seconds.
Did you know that the new Messages app on your OnePlus 8T has revamped its user interface? Yes, now you don't have to search for a long lost message.
Like Truecaller and SMS Organizer (see best Microsoft SMS Organizer tips and tricks), the Messages app now also displays important information immediately. There are visual cards at the top to separate transactional messages and promotional messages from the rest.
However, if you don't like the visual maps, you can turn them off from the settings. To do this, tap the three-dot menu at the top and select Settings. Then toggle the switch for visual maps and you'll be good to go.
Dark mode is another cool feature of your new OnePlus phone. If you're someone like me who doesn't like dark mode during the day, you can set a schedule for that. This way, you can switch to the dark theme at a convenient time.
To do this, go to display settings and tap on Dark mode to see all the options. You can either choose the sunrise time or enter a custom time to your liking.
Interestingly, you can also force dark mode on apps that don't already support it. For those unaware, this feature originally resided in the OnePlus Labs menu.
It was high time for the OnePlus camera to have a follow focus feature. If you must know, Samsung had come up with a similar feature with the Samsung Galaxy S8. With active focus tracking, you can constantly focus on a moving object, such as a pet. Naturally enough, it gives you respite from fuzzy, blurry images. As they say, a moment never comes back.
Focus Tracking mode on the OnePlus 8T is similar. When activated, it also allows you to keep the selected subject in focus.
To enable it, open the Camera app and tap Settings. Select Focus Tracking from the list and that's it.
The OnePlus 8T also brings five new themes to Zen Mode. Yes, cutting down on your phone time is more important than ever, and OnePlus urges you to watch soothing visuals and not go crazy on social media or YouTube.
To check them, pull down the Quick Settings menu and select Zen Mode from the menu.
Swipe left to switch between different themes. Once you've selected the one you like, click Let's Go.
Hey, put your phone down already!
Cool tip :You can select the duration up to 120 minutes. Now that will be a real challenge in itself, right?
If you're someone who likes shortcuts, your OnePlus 8T will allow you to do something cool. With your new phone, you can access your favorite applications directly from the fingerprint reader.
All you have to do is press and hold the fingerprint reader for a bit longer. Once the phone is unlocked, the context menu will appear immediately.
To enable this feature, go to Settings> Utilities> Quick Launch and toggle the switch. The best part is that you can use the apps you want. To do this, select Quick Launch Settings from the menu.
These are some of the notable tips and tricks that will enhance your onePlus experience. Apart from the above, you can also check out the many customization options like changing the fingerprint icon or the new OnePlus Sans font. Most importantly, don't forget to check out all the cool features of the Camera app like macro, filters, and smart features.
