As a fairly enthusiastic, if not very expert Wordle reader, I was not thrilled that The New York Times added the pun to his quiver. But I understood why the Fois would like it, and why the game's creator would want to not have to deal with its unexpected popularity. So I heaved a sigh and got ready to continue playing on the new site.
The day has come:I clicked on the familiar powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle URL and saw www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html in the address field. I mentally shrugged my shoulders and prepared for my morning battle with the English language.
And nothing.
A blank screen. No 404 notices, no "your internet connection is down" message - and most importantly, no Wordle. Just a blank screen.
Frustrated, but not wanting to spend too much time trying to figure it out, I got rid of the tab and tried again. No chance.
Was Wordle somehow down? No - I was able to access it on my Pixel 6 phone, an incognito browser, and Safari (which I hardly ever use). And no one else here at I/O Means seemed to complain. So I blamed it on a bug and played on my phone instead.
But for the next two days the same thing continued to happen. It was as if fate – or perhaps I/O Means from the computer department of — had decreed that I should not play word games on my work computer. But that computer was where my previous Wordle stats, pitiful as they were, were kept. I was in despair.
Until I finally got up from my discouragement, took a deep breath, and started looking for a solution. and finally found on Reddit.
Turns out I wasn't the only one. There were others who found they suddenly couldn't access their morning dose of Wordle. The problem?
They were New York Times subscribers.
Turns out, for at least a few of us who actually subscribe to Times , Wordle has a problem with the cookies that the journal leaves on our browser. (And it's not just Chrome — there have been complaints from people using Firefox and Safari.) The solution was to get rid of all Times cookies. left on your browser.

That should do it. This did it for me - after that I went to the powerlanguage URL, clicked on it and found myself on my familiar Wordle site (albeit with the new NY Times address), with my stats.
And again, I can start my mornings enjoying coffee, toast, and Wordle. Well, kind of fun - I haven't been able to solve the game in less than four lines for about a week now...
