Google Maps introduces some new features that make it even easier to find your way around and discover new cities and countries. For example, the new Live View function allows you to determine the correct walking direction using augmented reality (AR). You can also now use Google Maps as a central location for consulting all your flight and hotel bookings. The updated Timeline also helps you remember your trip and share recommendations with friends.
Find your way with confidence
There is nothing like exploring a city on foot. That's the perfect way to feast your eyes and ears. However, sometimes it is difficult to determine which way to walk. With the new Live View function, you can determine the correct walking direction with the help of augmented reality (AR). The environment around you is displayed on your screen, supplemented with arrows and direction indicators that show you the way.
To use Live View, open the Google Maps app, enter your destination and tap the walk icon. From there, tap the "Live View" button and point your camera at the buildings around you. Once Google Maps shows you where you are, you'll see signs and arrows in the real world to show you which direction to walk.
Find the best local eateries Let's face it:no holiday is complete without culinary delights. With the new Your Match feature, you can quickly find restaurants that match your preferences. You can also see how long you have to wait for a table. And you can even book a table without leaving the app. With the popular dishes feature, you can quickly find out which menu items you absolutely must try.
Be well prepared for travel
You can now use Google Maps as a central location to consult all your flight and hotel bookings. This is especially useful when checking in at the airport or en route to the hotel at your next destination.
All you have to do is tap the three gray lines at the top left of the screen. On it you will see an overview of all your upcoming trips. If you select a trip, you will see all the reservations for it. And the great thing is, you can even request this information from them when you're offline! So you don't have to worry about the lack of an internet connection or the use of your mobile data outside the national borders.
Relive special moments and share them with your friends
The best thing about travelling? Collect beautiful memories afterwards and share them with your loved ones. If you chose to leave the Location History setting on, you can use the new Google Maps timeline to remind you of that great restaurant or cool store where you picked up vintage stuff. You will also see an overview of all locations you have visited in a country or city. You can click through to categories of the places you have visited, such as restaurants, shops, theme parks, hotels and airports. So the next time someone asks you for travel recommendations, you can generate a list of visited locations in the blink of an eye. You can add notes about what you really liked about it and then share it with friends and family members.
Reservations and Live View will be available for Android and iOS devices. The new Timeline will be available for Android mobile devices.
