Minecraft:Pi Edition is based on an older version of Pocket Edition, with some features removed to help it run more smoothly on the Raspberry Pi. Pi Edition is free to download and easy to install, but it doesn't provide the full experience from Minecraft.

Wouldn't you rather have the "full" version of Minecraft on your Raspberry Pi? In this article you will learn how to get Minecraft:Java Edition 1.14.4 running on Raspberry Pi 4. Following, you can turn your Raspberry Pi into a portable Minecraft game that you can attach to any compatible display or monitor.

13. Enter your password.

Now that Gentoo is installed and you're connected to your local network, you're ready to install Minecraft:Java Edition.

Retrieve the installation script

The first step is to grab the setup script and replace it with the Minecraft launcher. Towards the bottom of the Gentoo desktop, find the "Terminal" icon and click on it.

Next, create a new Minecraft directory:

mkdir ~/Minecraft

Point Terminal to this new directory:

cd ~/Minecraft

We can now grab the install script, run it, and override the Minecraft launcher by running each of the following commands in turn:

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/awi0eczcq2645sc/setupMC1_14_4.shchmod +x setupMC1_14_4.sh./setupMC1_14_4.sh &&echo DONEmv Minecraft.jar{,.old}wget http:/ /move.rupy.se/file/launcher.jar -O Minecraft.jar

This process can take a while, so why not treat yourself to a coffee or a snack while you wait?

Start Minecraft Launcher

Once the Terminal has executed all your commands, you can start the Minecraft Launcher:

java -jar Minecraft.jar

Enter your Minecraft username and password, then click "Login".

Click "Save Profile", which will take you back to the main Minecraft launcher screen. Click the "Play" button.

The launcher will download everything it needs to install Minecraft and then quickly crash. Do not panic ! We can solve this problem by installing OptiFine.

Install the OptiFine Minecraft module

OptiFine is a Minecraft utility mod that optimizes game graphics. It can improve performance, which is essential when trying to run Minecraft on the Raspberry Pi!

To install OptiFine, run the following Terminal command:

java -jar OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F3.jar

When prompted, click "Install".

mousepad runMC1_14_4_OptifineF3.sh

This file should now open in a new window, ready for editing.

Scroll down to the next section:

[email protected]_USERNAME=abcdefghiMINECRAFT_PASSWORD=xxxxxxxxx

Replace these credentials with your own information, making sure to enclose your email address, password, and username in quotes. For example:

MINECRAFT_LOGIN=“[email protected]”MINECRAFT_USERNAME=“MyMinecraftUsername”MINECRAFT_PASSWORD=“MyMinecraftPassword”

Save your changes by selecting "File -> Save".

Since this file now contains your Minecraft credentials in plain text, you need to run "chmod 0700" so other people can't read, write or execute your login credentials. In Terminal, run the following command:

chmod 0700 runMC1_14_4_OptifineF3.sh

Your Minecraft credentials will now be protected from prying eyes.

Launch Minecraft:Java Edition

You are now ready to run Minecraft! In Terminal, type:

./runMC1_14_4_OptifineF3.sh

Minecraft will now load.

Starting Minecraft for the first time may take a while, but after a few minutes you should see the login screen for Minecraft:Java Edition.

Before logging into your account, you need to change Minecraft settings to make it easier for Raspberry Pi to process the game.

Optimize Minecraft for the Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi does not have the same firepower as a PC or computer, so running Minecraft:Java Edition on your Raspberry Pi may result in poor performance.

To avoid any potential lag, you should reduce the number of "chunks" visible at any time. Fewer chunks means your Raspberry Pi can render frames faster, which will reduce lag and make Minecraft flow easier.

To reduce the render distance:

On the Minecraft login screen, select “Options… -> Video Settings…”
