Google is the leader in the search space and certainly the most beloved search engine today, but some policy changes they've made over the past few months aren't very welcomed by many. Now, with its statement of its new user data sharing policy, some have already started researching alternative search engines.

Outside of Google here are some good alternative search engines you can use:
Bing from Microsoft – many don't want to try it or use it for one simple reason! It's from Microsoft! But if you can put aside your negative bias for ‘everything Microsoft’ and test it for a week, you will be surprised at the results it offers. If you don't like it, you can always go back to the old one. Bing now also powers Yahoo Search results. You might want to read this Bing vs Google article.
DuckDuckGo The search engine also does not track your history and prohibits spam sites and sites filled with advertisements. Take a look at these DuckDuckGo Search Tricks articles.
IxQuick was IxQuick that was the first search engine to offer encrypted search in 2009. It also made SSL encryption the default for all searches – although other search engines have also followed suit. Ixquick has a sister search engine called Startpage.
Research with Ecosia, and the company promises to plant a tree. They also take privacy seriously.
