Apple has therefore done it again with the launch of the iPhone 6s. A new front flash for all selfie lovers who complained about taking selfies in low light conditions. The moment they mentioned they came up with the idea of turning the front-facing "Retina Display" into a front-facing flash, the whole crowd went crazy over this not-so-first-of-its-kind innovative product. . As always.
There have been many apps for Android and iOS for quite some time that work on the same concept of front screen lighting to give off a good amount of light when you need to take a selfie in low light conditions. So at the end of the day, you really don't need an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus to use the front flash. Here are some apps using which you can get the feature right away.
Apple users first, after all it is their innovation, can go ahead and install Selfshot on your phone. After installing and launching the app, it will illuminate your skin in full brightness with white backlight. You can then place the phone in front of you and take photos using the app. The small frame at the top left will show you the preview.
Here are some of my selfies (don't judge me by my looks) that were taken in a dark room with no light source. The native camera was unable to capture even an outline compared to Selfshot. As the app uses the screen to lighten the face, the new version of iPhones with a larger screen will always have the upper hand over older phones.
For $0.99, you can get features like burst shooting and self-timer, as well as the ability to record videos. The option to upgrade to self-timer can be useful because the option to use volume buttons to click photos does not work in this app. The Burst feature is pretty decent as well, but I'm really not sure about the video.
The front flash on Android works on the same principle of illuminating the screen so you can take selfies in low light. The app, however, isn't as polished as the iPhone's Selfshot. When you launch the app, you get the screen with the center as the preview window and along the edge the bright white light. After taking the photo, you can apply additional filters to make the photo brighter.
The app can also be used by girls to check how they look before a party or in a night club. illuMEnate:Front Camera Flash is another app you can try that offers the ability to take videos from the front camera. You also get a built-in image editor, but as soon as you save a photo, you can choose from better photo editing apps.
Best Use of Flash: When used correctly, your smartphone camera flash can be a great help in taking great photos.
Here are some apps that can be used to take low-light selfies without upgrading to an iPhone 6s. These apps were there in the respective store for more than a few months or even years. I'm sure the developers won't come up with any more alternatives now that Apple itself is in the ring. Also, if you want to suggest an alternative, thank you in advance.
