AOHi Magcube 30W:The smallest 30W charger that charges more than your phone.

AOHi Magcube is a 30W power charger with the title of "smallest 30W charger". Remember Apple's built-in charger with a small 1 x 1 x 1 inch form factor? The Magcube 30W is also small and compact. But, on the contrary, it delivers six times more power than the Apple 5W charger.

With the advent of GaN+ technology, chargers have reduced in size but increased in power delivery. This new technology has allowed the new chargers to have a watt density of 1W/cm 3 . AOHi Magcube has a watt density of 1.18 W/cm 3, which makes it much smaller than its competitor.

You may not have heard of AOHi as the company has just launched its commercial sale of chargers, but you may have used one of their chargers. AOHi is a newly created brand of Aohai Technology, a company providing chargers for a plethora of companies, including Google, Nokia, Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, Belkin, and ASUS, to name a few. Aohai Technologies holds a 14.5% market share and has manufacturing bases in China, India and Indonesia. Aohai is not a small business; take my words. Enough about the business context, let me talk about performance.

1. Compact and high-end design of AOHi Magcube

AOHi Magcube 30W is not your average charger, whether you consider the overall size profile or the finish. As mentioned earlier, the charger is compact. The cube measures just 1.1 by 1.1 by 1.3 inches, similar in size to Apple's 5W charger.

Size comparison of the Magcube 30W with its competitors

The charger is not only small, but has a premium design. The charger has a beautiful front surface with a precisely carved diamond vein design. The front is made of CNC cut metal. The charger weighs only 40 grams or 1.4 ounces. But it looks and feels solid and firm. Overall, the build quality is top notch.

AOHi Magcube 30W is only 4 g weight.

The Magcube 30W comes with two parallel flat plugs (Plug type A). however, the pins are fixed.

2. Power Delivery in AOHi Magcube

First, the charger has a maximum output of 30W through a USB-C port. AOHi Magcube 30W supports multiple devices including iPhones from iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy 8 and later, Google Pixel, MacBook Air and Nintendo Switch

AOHi Magcube supports the following standards PD2.0, PD3.0, QC2.0, QC3.0, QC4.0+, PPS, Apple2.4, BC1.2. Power Delivery output is at 5V-3A, 9V-2.22A, 9V-2.77A, 15V-2A, 20-1.5A. Magcube has the same chipset used in Apple's expensive charging devices.

Technicalities aside, I was able to charge my iPhone 12 Pro, Google Pixel 5, and Nintendo Switch with it. Also, I tried charging MacBook Pro, and to my surprise, I was able to charge it even though Apple recommends charging it at 60W.

3. Magcube AOHi charging speeds

Enough about charging standards and specs; let me talk about actual charging speeds. During my tests, the charger was able to charge my various devices. So here is the detailed charge review.

iPhone 12:

The Magcube was able to charge my iPhone 12 Pro at a fast charge of around 20W. This charger charged 50% in half an hour.

Google Pixel:

The Magcube 30W charged the Google Pixel 5 from zero to 90% in one hour.

Nintendo Switch:

The Magcube 30W charged the Nintendo Switch from 0-56% in one hour.

Macbook Pro:

Charging a MacBook Pro using a 30W charger seems pointless and inconvenient. But I tried to charge my MacBook Pro using this charger for instances, I forget to bring my charger to work, or I'm going on vacation and don't feel like carrying a charging brick additional. Although the recommended charging power is 60W for MacBook Pro, the charger was able to charge at 30W. However, charging was slow, only 30% in an hour. This charging speed isn't good, but who doesn't like having an extra option available.

Heating problem:

The charger stayed cold during the charging process. The heat dissipation is due to the fact that the improved GaN+ technology produces much less heat and the cooling is done with a large amount of thermal pad paste. In addition, the front of the charger is made of metal and thus allows cooling thanks to better thermal conduction. Overall, I found no heating issues and the charger remained at average temperatures during my testing.

4. Indicators on AOHi Magcube

The charger supports PD3.0 and provides charging status information. In addition, there is an LED light that indicates the charging speed.
