Modern women spend a month a year playing video games, according to new research from the 2017 Guinness World Records (Gamer's Edition). The study found that the average woman spends up to 12 hours a week on a mobile phone screen (8 hours) or a game console (4 hours). More than four in ten female gamers said they found it therapeutic and over a quarter said they get a real buzz when they successfully level up or score points that are sought after.
The typical woman has downloaded more than five game apps on her mobile device and claims that she spends 15 percent of each day playing games and puzzles. According to the survey of 1,500 women, eight out of ten women prefer to play alone, but 18 percent play regularly with the other half, while 44 percent say gaming together brings them closer together. However, there is a fierce rivalry between couples with more than two-thirds (68 percent) of women claiming that they are much better than their partner when it comes to gaming.
More than two-thirds (67 percent) of the 1,000 women surveyed said their favorite type of game was a puzzle or pattern game and the most popular place to play is in bed (54 percent). Candy Crush stands as the top game played by the female gamers, followed by Angry Birds and Temple Run. Interestingly, 28 percent of the women surveyed think they are a calmer person since they started gaming and a quarter say they have better reflexes. Nearly a third (31 percent) say gaming is the best way to get some time for themselves.
