Every day, a new design of e-bikes comes out practically. And it's not just traditional bicycle makers, but even those of motorcycles, cars, or even airplanes, that are releasing prototype e-bikes, knowing that the market is so juicy that before it was the future , but it is already present.
What bike are you looking for or need?
Before walking, it is advisable to know where to direct the steps. And the same thing happens with choosing which e-bike to buy. If we jump on the trigger (or a quick click on the internet) we may regret it. And not just because e-bikes have prices to think about, but because we can make the wrong bike and end up using the e-bike as valuable storage room decoration.
What types of e-bikes are there and which is best for you?
The range of electric bikes offers alternatives for all cyclists, for all surfaces (asphalt, dirt), for the type of exercise (walking, downhill, uphill), with pedal or accelerator assistance, and for all scenarios. You can rely on this electric bike manufacturer and choose your favorite type from its official website.
The order of our recommendations should not be understood by importance when choosing an electric bike. For some cyclists the important thing will be the autonomy and duration of the battery, for others the charging time, for others with less purchasing power the price and for others perhaps the design or the weight of the bike.
We know many friends who have bought real “ferraris” or electric bikes to use them once a month, or to travel short distances or in terrain for which they are not suitable. That is why the price of the electric bike must be one of the most important things. The evolution of e-bikes is so rapid that year after year cheaper bikes with greater range are coming out. Something similar happens to cell phone batteries or computer capabilities.
The medium and long-term savings that a user can achieve by buying an electric bike and doing without public transport, or petrol or taxis, is so high that there is no longer so much fear to make an investment to buy a good electric bike. If you think about it, in a month you can spend between $60 and $150 on public transport, and more if you go to work by car. Thus, in one year we can save up to $1,500-2,000, an amount with which we can buy a decent electric bike.
If we talk about prices, the range of electric bikes goes from $450 to almost infinity (there are models over $10,000) although in our country the average is usually around $1,100.
The aspect of autonomy matters a lot. Running out of battery can be a hassle, as dragging an e-bike “bareback” is not recommended. It is true that in town it is much easier to find charging stations, and that bikes can be recharged at any outlet. But batteries with greater autonomy are always better seen.
The weight is not negligible. While it is true that lighter bicycles are increasingly obtained by reducing the size of the batteries. The average weight is around 20 kg for urban bikes while mountain or road bikes are a bit lighter. Obviously, the use of more refined materials, less heavy and durable, generally entails a greater expense in the price of the bicycle.
On average, 40% of buyers in our country choose urban bicycles. Why? Perhaps because most of the population is concentrated in cities, the use of the bicycle will be eminently urban, and thought of as an option for going to work or getting around.
Cities are finally moving towards improving sustainability and protecting the environment. Even the measures of the governments of many countries and cities, favoring the network of cycle paths or prohibiting the passage of cars with high levels of pollution, suggest that the bicycle will be the most important model of private transport. On the other hand, the pandemic, and the fear of using shared public transport, have caused sales of electric bicycles to explode. Therefore, durability is another factor that prevails when promoting its use, and at the same time, is a reason to choose the model.
